    Preparing for your first visit

  • Yes. Everyone that walks through Volta’s doors will need a signed waiver. Save time and fill one out online, or come on in and we can support you.

Very important: if you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign your waiver, not your friend’s parent, grandparent, or a pal. We make this easy to do online so please plan ahead.

  • The name Volta spoke to us as a poetic nod to energy, and to the transformation that is possible through intentional engagement. Volta, meaning “turn” in poetry, refers to a dramatic shift in thought or emotion, an important moment of transition. Volta is also a river, a crater on the moon, a dance, etc. It has meanings across many languages and yet is the same word in each. Alessandro Volta invented the voltaic pile, and contributed to theories about electric current.

  • You must be 14 or older to belay other climbers (to control the ropes for another climber) and to use the fitness equipment. There is no age restriction for learning to climb, young or old! Children under 14 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

If you’re climbing with children under the age of 14, we encourage you to check with our front desk staff for more information about best supervision practices. We encourage all ages to climb, but the space is not necessarily designed for young children! Especially in the bouldering area, they need active supervision to minimize the risk for everyone involved.

  • No experience is necessary! Entering a climbing gym can be intimidating, but our welcoming staff will offer you a thorough tour of the facility. The tour will cover information about the different types of climbing we offer, our grading system, the equipment, and general etiquette/guidelines. We can even suggest a good starting point for your climbing journey. Don’t hesitate to ask questions! We’re more than happy to help.

If you’re interested in trying out rope climbing but don’t have a belayer*, check out our staff belay hours.

*A belayer is someone who takes the extra slack out of the rope as you climb and then lowers you down when you’re ready.

  • Climbing is a challenge by choice. It can be an awesome way to step out of your comfort zone, but it’s entirely up to you. You only have to climb as high up the wall as you feel comfortable.

Our gym offers a diverse range of difficulty levels, but many people often surpass their perceived limitations, discovering they are stronger than they think! Don’t hesitate to ask our front desk staff if you have any questions about the equipment, the different types of climbing, or if you want some technique pointers. We’re here to help :)

  • Yes! You do not need to make an appointment to climb. Stop by anytime during our open hours.

  • 4500 square feet of lead/top rope wall • 26 rope stations • Wall height ranging from 35-40 feet tall • Area dedicated to introductory climbing • Tiered rappel station for SAR training
